How Does Reiki Work?

Practitioners of Reiki are attuned to Reiki energy. Attuning someone to Reiki energy means preparing their body to work as a receiver and channel of the universal life force energy. The attuned person becomes like a pipe through which the energy can flow and be passed on to others. Since the source of Reiki is Universal Life Force Energy, we cannot will it nor control it.

At the same time, we cannot will others to accept Reiki without their consent. Reiki requires mutual consent in order to be received. Remember, the life force energy does not come from the giver, it flows through her.

When the attuned practitioner channels Reiki to the energy field of a recipient, the Reiki energy naturally, spontaneously flows to the places where there are blockages in the flow of the recipient's ki (individual life force energy). This is why we call it Divinely Guided. The energy always goes where it is needed, even if the practitioner doesn't know where that should be. It also only delivers the right amount of energy, so there is no danger of "overdosing" on Reiki.

Reiki flows where it is needed and smoothes out or dissolves the blockages and obstructions gently and subtly. Once the recipient's ki is flowing freely where there was an obstruction, then the issue's manifestation (which could be a symptom) disappears for the recipient and its cause is healed.
