Do you need to believe for Reiki to be effective?
Because Reiki is Spiritually Guided Universal Life Force Energy, it is not dependent on human consciousness to work. This means that the receiver does not have to believe in Reiki or understand it in order for it to work. The Reiki energy goes where it is needed, regardless of what the giver or the receiver think of it. The great thing about it is that the person giving Reiki does not have to know what would help the receiver (how often do we really know?), it is all really up to the energy!
