Experience Gratitude, YOUR VIBRATIONS Vol. 3, No. 7
We are entering the season of the harvest, when we get to pick the fruits of our labor. It' s a natural time to feel gratitude. But even when there is no evident harvest, even when it looks like things aren' t going well, if I can feel gratitude for something, I know that I am tapping into a powerful and healing energy. In fact, gratitude and love vibrate at very similar levels: to me, they almost feel the same. I have written about hidden giftsbefore, and gratitude can be a great help to find them. When I was faced with unexpected challenges earlier this summer, my focus on gratitude for the most basic elements of my life, for the air I so effortlessly breathe and the love I receive from my children, raised my vibrations far enough to realize that I feel deep gratitude even for those challenges, for the lessons and gifts they brought me (and sometimes forced upon me) and, especially, the opportunity to align my life with my True, Divine Self anew. That realization, made doing what I needed to do so much easier, I was able to actually appreciate it! It also allowed me a new openness to recognizing the synchronicities and all the gifts that Spirit lays before me as I move forward on my path. This makes me think that the snowball effect would be better named the gratitude effect. . . the more you feel it, the bigger it gets! And with it, come more and greater gifts. SHIFTING NEGATIVE ENERGY WITH GRATITUDEMikao Usui, the founder of Reiki, left us five principles, which he called the "secret of inviting blessings, spiritual medicine for illness." Two of those principles have to do with not feeling anger or worry. The third translates from Japanase to read: "Just for today, I give thanks for my many blessings." As it turns out, this last principle is a tool for following the first two. Amy Z. Rowland in the fall issue of Reiki News Magazine, says: We can "enter" gratitude at any time, from anywhere. It is an inner sanctuary. Whatever difficulties we face, whatever challenges confront us, we may choose, as an act of free will, to focus on the difficulties or challenges or to reflect on the blessings of our lives. When we retreat from anger or backpedal away from worry by going toward gratitude, we may be able to make the shift in an instant, like crossing a threshold into a synagogue or mosque or church, or we may travel a spiral path, slowly centering ourselves, setting aside one distracted, fearful thought after another to choose instead a positive, life-affirming thought and appreciation. In this gradual way, we may also center ourselves and open up for joy. The day-to-day practice is simple, easy, comforting, for it rekindles our awareness of connection to Source and inspires greater reverence for life. When we make the choice to focus on the positive and to feel appreciation, we shift mental and emotional energy away from problems. This relaxation may allow solutions to come to mind, but it also invites something we may value even more: the healing flow of Reiki energy." Even without the blessing of Reiki, choosing gratitude when we find ourself focusing on anger, worry or fear raises our vibrations out of negativity. So one way to respond, when confronted with difficulty, anger or frustration, is to breathe in grateful thoughts, feeling the gratitude grow in the center of your chest with each in-breath, and feeling it settle there as you breathe out. If you have Reiki, notice the flow in your hands as you do this and allow the energy to heal you. If you don' t have Reiki (it' s never too late to learn), continue this exercise until your energy shifts into one of well-being, peace and joy.
Since I am writing about gratitude, I want to take a moment to acknowledge you, my reader, because it is in thinking about you, in working and writing for you, that I remember my purpose and the joy I feel in providing you with tools and skills that allow you to be self-reliant in your path to your True Self, to developing an authentic, deeply satisfying life. Thank you for inspiring me this way! Wishing you peace, joy, and many causes for gratitude,
