What Matters, YOUR VIBRATIONS Vol. 3, No. 5
I have been dedicating a lot of time to preparing a class called Mothering From Within, which is all about remembering, relearning, and recognizing skills and tools that we naturally have as mothers, but that we may not even know are there because we aren't taught to value them by mainstream culture. When I was defining what "mothering from within" means for me, I realized that it is the same thing that has been guiding me since I began Vibrations, and that I think applies to everyone: it is living with attentiveness to what comes from the inside, from the essence, from the soul, attentiveness to what really matters. And that, perhaps, should be the question we ask of ourselves each day. What really matters? Thing is, so often, if we look at our lives from the outside, what really matters doesn't show. How much time do we spend on things that don't matter? How much time do we spend on how we look, and how our family and life looks to other people? How much time do we spend trying to come through on projects or to people that we don't feel a connection to? How much time do we spend doing things that we don't want to do or don't like doing? And on the other hand, how much time do we spend really focusing on the people we love? How much time do we spend each day in communion with our True Self, our Soul, or with Spirit? How much time do have to fulfill our deepest yearnings? Perhaps it's worth taking stock and making more room for the IMPORTANT things in our life. RUMI ON WHAT MATTERSThere is one thing in the world that you must never forget to do. If you forget everything else and not this, there's nothing to worry about: but if you remember everything else and forget this, then you will have done nothing in your life. It's as if a king has sent you to some country to do a task, and you perform a hundred other services, but not the one he sent you to do. So human beings come to this world to do particular work. That work is the purpose and each is specific to the person. TAKING STOCKFind a time and space where you will not be interrupted and you will be able to give yourself a gift of connection with your inner wisdom. Bring paper and colored pencils or crayons. Make yourself comfortable in your space. In order to begin, take a few minutes to do deep breathing or a grounding meditation (such as this one on my website). Allow yourself to be fully present, setting aside for the moment anything outside of this time and space. If you have Reiki, clear the space with CR and channel energy to yourself. As you breathe deeply, mentally state to yourself the intention to use this time to focus on what really matters to you and to receive insights on this matter. If you work with spiritual guides, you can ask for their assistance and, with Reiki, connect to them with the distance symbol. Continue breathing as you think about what really matters to you and allow yourself to experience the feelings that it awakens for you. When you are ready, take a piece of paper and the colors, and begin drawing, doodling, watching your hands creating something on the page. What is being created is not for show, it does not have to be pleasing to any eye. Allow yourself to draw without judgment, focusing on how it feels to be attending to what really matters, thinking about what that is for you, and letting yourself flow. You may want to use your non-dominant hand, to deepen the connection between your unconscious and your conscious minds and to be forced to withdraw judgment. When you feel that you are finished, rest for a moment, feeling gratitude for the flow you have experienced, and then look again at the page. Assume that there is a message there for you about what really matters. Look for that message. Turn the page, view it from all directions. Allow yourself to see it with "soft" eyes, blurring your vision as you gaze at it. Let your mind make connections in what you see, and recognize the message. Perhaps it has to do with what matters, with what you have forgotten matters, or with what changes you need to make in your life. Think about what you need to do to integrate what you have learned here and make specific plans to implement it in the shortest time possible. Express gratitude for the guidance you have received, and return to your daily life with a heightened awareness about what is important to you! Here's wishing you peace and joy, and plenty of time for all that matters, About the Author
