Transforming Your Stories, YOUR VIBRATIONS Vol. 3, No. 2 - 2.09

Stories are part of what makes us human, we can find stories anywhere, even in rocks! I could see people in these rocks in the Chiricahua Mountains in Arizona, where I just spent a week with my parents. (Have I mentioned that I REALLY miss the mountains, for all the love I have for Chicago?) Maybe because of the wonderful, beloved company I was in, to me, these rock people seemed gathered there to celebrate together. To you, they might have a different story to tell.

In some ways, we are made up of stories: the stories we are told about the world, the stories we learn in our journey, and, especially, the stories we tell ourselves about who we are and why we are who we are. Those stories we tell ourselves can come to define us, particularly when we are unaware of them. Somehow, we forget that we can choose how we see our life, choose to be who we want.

Recently, I took part in a powerful, ritual re-telling of life stories, led by Shauna Aura. I was REALLY ready to change my story because I had just finished clearing the energy in my Mental Body, releasing lots of junk and being left with great clarity about my challenges and strengths, as well as how I want to grow.

My old story was about a child full of light who lost her connection to that light and went into the world in darkness, always searching for the source of it. In the moment, it actually felt hard to let the story go. The new story is all about the light that is found within!

So what's your story? Is it a story that holds you back or one that allows you to flow freely? You can read more about this below.

RUT AND RIVER STORIES

My teacher, Joan Forest Mage, first talked about Rut Stories and River Stories, she says she head it from Dawna Markova on New Dimensions Radio, but I couldn't find it. In any case, I like the metaphor, which is why I am sharing it with you here.

Rut stories are the stories we tell ourselves again and again about how stuck we are, or why we are so stuck. The rut story of a person who is very close to me was that she had been betrayed so much in her past that she could no longer trust anyone, even herself. She was lonely, but she couldn’t let anyone in because she couldn’t stand being hurt again.

River stories are the stories that flow, the stories that show us how we have grown and changed, or how we have the possibility to do so. These are stories that do not keep us where we are at, but rather, importantly, they empower us to think of ourselves as of capable of change, capable of choice, capable of taking action in a direction that is satisfying and constructive. The person I mentioned above has a wonderful river story! She suffered great pain in the past, when people she loved and counted on hurt her. It took great courage and strength to allow herself to even look at those situations, but over time she learned that she had been strong enough to live through the circumstances that could have crippled her and that she could heal. She found that other people who had suffered like her found comfort in her company and she has been using her own story to help others heal too!

The difference is that River stories offer hope and possibility, allowing us to flow on, on our journey! We can look at the same life circumstances through different lenses; those same circumstances are the source of different kinds of stories. The point is that we can choose how we look at them, and how we want them to affect our present and our future. Choosing River Stories, we open ourselves to accepting the riches that those circumstances can bring us.

TELLING YOUR RIVER STORIES

Do you know what your Rut Stories are? Are you ready to change your stories? If you don’t know, clearing the energy in your Mental Body can really help you find clarity about what needs to change for you, so that you can build your life to flow as you would like it to.

If you want to change your Rut Story, create a sacred space and time for yourself, as you would when going on a spiritual retreat. Call in your inner guidance, if you like. Write or draw your Rut Story one last time. Let yourself feel your affection for it, remember when it served you well, when it helped you live with your reality.

Now, think of a good way to destroy the paper that now holds your story: burn it (carefully), bury it, shred and flush it. Understand that you are symbolically destroying the story, too. If you have Reiki II, empower this process by using the distance symbol and CKR, or, with Reiki I, let the energy flow through your hands as you go through the process. (If you don't have Reiki, this is only a small benefit of it, and you can always learn!) Make a commitment to yourself that you will never again tell this story about yourself as if it were true.

Once your old story is destroyed, take a shower, give yourself Reiki, do something that will clean your energy, so you can tell yourself your new story feeling fresh. Now, write or draw your new story, feeling the truth of it, truly finding yourself in it. Frame it, fold it away in a sacred place, consecrate it with smoke; do something to set it apart from an ordinary piece of paper on which you jotted down a note. Now you are free of your old story, and you have a new one with which you can flow. Give thanks, if this is appropriate, and build your life with peace and joy!

Wishing you the flow of peace and joy,
Andrea
