An Invitation to Inspiration, YOUR VIBRATIONS Vol. 3, No. 1 - 1.09
Maybe it's the winter weather, or the fact that I can't believe we are almost one month into 2009, but I am still reflecting on my priorities, how I am spending my time, and how I want to live this year. I guess what I am still asking is: what is really important to me? One thing that is REALLY important to me is inspiration. For me, inspiration is the beginning of a dialogue I enter into with True Self, and with what is greater than myself. It's one step away from the surface, material world, and one step deeper into the mystery; a kind of grace. Inspiration can be the call to beauty, to invention, the seed energy for unleashing my creative talents and skills, for learning those I do not now have. Inspiration is a way to identify my life's purpose, and it is the way I know whether I am living by it, day by day. Like so much of spiritual work, inspiration requires a response. It is not enough to feel it. I must invite it, acknowledge it, and reward its presence with action. If you feel disconnected from inspiration, the exercise below is an invitation that should get your creative juices running. But if it doesn't, and you are feeling stuck in this regard, you can clear your blocks with Reiki. Or, you may want to discover what is causing the blocks, and a spiritual retreat will help you do that and show you how to move out of the rut you feel in. A BLESSING FOR INSPIRATIONMay inspiration visit you often, filling your heart with excitement and longing. AN INVITATION FOR INSPIRATIONIn order to invite inspiration and be able to respond to it, you will need time. Set a sacred time apart to dedicate to your inspiration. Make a date with your inspiration, even if you are unsure whether it will come. Put yourself in a beautiful space, a space in which you know that many of the aspects of your self will feel at home. If you need to, prepare the space: clear its energy, light candles or move the furniture, whatever will make it beautiful and inviting. Then sit, in reverent silence, and allow your thoughts and feelings to flow. Welcome them all, for they are your guests, but do not hold onto them. Welcome the doubts that your invitation will be answered, the fear that if inspiration does show up, it might ask of you things you are unable, unwilling to give. Allow these thoughts and feelings to flow through you, thank them for their visit. And now, use your breath, deep and full, to take you into the quiet places of your being. Feel the peace that each breath fills you with, the stillness that it can cause. And when you are there, in the still space within, when your awareness is inside, connected to you and to what is sacred, then make your invitation: invite inspiration to join you. Feel the longing for it. And in that same, quiet place of your being, notice your body. As if it were a community instead of one being, ask your body who wants to move, and how. Give yourself time to feel it, do not rush, but when you do feel ready, allow yourself to be moved by your body, by your limbs, by the pull of your torso. Do not think about what you are doing, just follow the directives of your body. Do not wonder what is the purpose, because the purpose is to flow, to open yourself to know things outside of your mind. Allow yourself to move, slowly, rhythmically, frantically, until your body comes again to stillness. Now, bring your awareness to your heart. Is it beating hard, are you out of breath? Or is it very faint and quiet? What can you feel in there, in your heart? Look there, feel there, for the seed of inspiration. Allow yourself to feel the warmth, the heat that your heart radiates. Deep within it lies the seed of inspiration. What is calling you, what is inviting you out? Inspiration is in there, responding to your call. But you must allow it to express itself, recognize how it can do so. What implements can you offer it? More movement and dance? Pencils and paper, canvas and oils? A walk in the park? Does your inspiration need threads and yarn, or stone and wood, flour and sugar? What are the tools you can put at its disposal? Gather them now, for this is your gift to inspiration, this is how you reward its presence in your life. You may not be able to finish all that it is inviting you to begin, but you are responding, and as you do, feel your gratitude, express it. And enjoy!
